Pest Management

Sumac is experienced with the preparation and undertaking of Integrated Pest Management Plans to mitigate negative impacts to the treed communities.
In 2020 and 2021, an abundance of European Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar) was noted in various regions across Southern and Central Ontario. This insect is known to have detrimental effects on trees, and in some cases to the extent of which the tree(s) have not been able to recover.
​Using one or more of the described methods, Sumac will work to minimize future impacts of the pest on your property:

Manual removal of caterpillars, cocoons, and egg masses

Pheromone traps to lure the male moths from the females

Sticky banding to prevent caterpillars from reaching foliage

Burlap banding to capture caterpillars

Biological control (i.e. pesticide spray)
